Flint Creek Under Fire-Triggered Recreational Advisory

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) have issued a recreational use advisory for Flint Creek in Ontario County. The advisory comes as authorities investigate environmental impacts following a fire at the Eco Operations facility in Gorham on August 30, 2025.

Officials report that several hundred small, dead fish have been found in the creek. As a precaution, the public is advised to avoid all contact with Flint Creek from Dewey Avenue down to the Canandaigua Outlet. This includes refraining from activities such as fishing, consuming fish, boating, and swimming.

DEC field teams are actively monitoring water quality and assessing the impact on aquatic life. People who observe unusual fish or wildlife are encouraged to call DEC at 800-457-7362. There is currently no indication that public drinking water supplies are affected.

DEC will continue to work with local, state, and federal officials during the ongoing fire investigation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
